Czech President Peter Pavel signed on Thursday amendments to the law on expanding refugee protection from Ukraine from Russian military aggression.

This was reported on the website of the head of state, reports Ukrinform.

The changes in the law relate to the extension of the term of protection of refugees from Ukraine, as well as other issues. The previous period was to be valid until the end of March this year.

It is expected that Ukrainian refugees living in the Czech Republic for more than two years will be able to obtain a special permission for long -term residence. This applies to those who are provided with housing, economically independent and does not use the refugee benefit system. For children, a prerequisite is a visit to the Czech school.

Amendments to the law also concern other issues. In particular, it is about the introduction of criminal liability for unauthorized activity in favor of a foreign state (imprisonment for a term up to 5 years in normal time and up to 15 – in the conditions of martial law). In addition, from now on, Russians who want to obtain Czech citizenship will only be able to do so if they give up Russian citizenship and provide evidence of it. The law, however, admits exceptions, for example, for asylum seekers.
