One of the key oil refineries of southern Russia – the Ilsky refinery in the Krasnodar region – was attacking the night of February 17, said Andrey Kovalenko, the head of the Center for Combating Misinformation at the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.

“Its capacity is about 6.6 million tons of oil per year. The plant specializes in the production of fuel, fuel oil, bitumen, gas and other petroleum products, ”Kovalenko wrote in the telegram without specifying who attacked the refinery.

According to Kovalenko, the importance of this plant for the army of the Russian Federation is to provide fuel of military equipment, especially in the southern region and in the occupied territories of Ukraine.

“The Kropotkinskaya oil pumping station in Krapotkinskaya, which is the largest in the Caspian pipeline consortium, which provides basic export of oil from Kazakhstan, was also discharged,” the CPD chairman added.

Earlier, ASTRA telegram with reference to the locals reported that in the Krasnodar region of the Russian Federation, drones attacked the Il oil refining plant. Such objects in the Krasnodar region still became the purpose of drones.

The Armed Forces General Staff did not comment on the attack.

Since the beginning of 2024, Russian refineries have regularly affected Ukrainian drones. In some plants, the primary oil processing installations that demanded repair were obtained. However, in April last year, Russia was able to partially restore the capacity of key oil refineries.

According to the estimates of the BBC, published in August 2024, since the beginning of that year, the Armed Forces have at least 64 times attacked by refinery and oil infrastructure in Russia.
