The Galician District Court of Lviv extended the preventive measure in the form of detention without bail to the suspect in the murder of People’s Deputy of Ukraine, Speaker of the Parliament in 2016-2019, public figure Andrii Parubiy.

The court extended the preventive measure until February 15, 2026.

“Thanks to an examination of one of the seized phones of the suspect, a file was found showing where the suspect hid the tools of the crime,” said Nazar Markiv, the prosecutor of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

Mykhailo Scelnikov, a suspect in the murder from Lviv, answering the journalists’ questions, confirmed that he killed the politician who was communicating with the curator because he wanted to find his son, who was missing during the war.

On December 16, the SBU and the Prosecutor General’s Office reported that during the investigation, the pistol with which Andrii Parubiy was killed was discovered and seized. According to the OGP report, the suspect tried to hide this weapon in a specially equipped “storage room”. This is a Makarov pistol, a firearm with a silencer. According to the results of the examinations, it was established that it was this gun that killed the deputy. Traces of the killer’s DNA were also found on the weapon.

According to the investigation, the killer of the politician fired 8 shots, then ran away and hid the gun.

When asked why he killed Parubiy, the suspect answered: “The whole government is to blame. What difference does it make if the weapons are Russian.”

According to him, he was told where the weapons were hidden. And who exactly informed, did not say.

The law enforcement officers also announced the receipt of new evidence, which indicates that the suspect committed not only intentional murder, but also a series of serious crimes against the foundations of Ukraine’s national security.

According to the investigation, the suspect acted for the benefit of the special services of the Russian Federation in the conditions of martial law – he transmitted information about the location and movement of units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine; provided intelligence materials for the coordination of subversive activities.

New charges were brought against the suspect under Part 2 of Article 111 (treason) and Parts 1 and 3 of Article 436-2 (justification and glorification of Russia’s armed aggression) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Andriy Parubiy, a participant in the Revolution of Dignity, a politician, a people’s deputy, and the speaker of the Verkhovna Rada from 2016 to 2019, was shot dead in Lviv on August 30. As reported by a Radio Liberty correspondent, Parubiy was killed on Efremov Street in Lviv, not far from where he lived. Eight shell casings were found at the scene of the murder.

On September 1, security forces in Khmelnytskyi region detained Mykhailo Scelnikov, a 52-year-old resident of Lviv. On September 2, he was remanded in custody for 60 days without bail.

Scelnikov spoke with journalists before the start of the meeting and pleaded guilty to murder. He called the motive of his actions “personal revenge against the Ukrainian authorities.” At the same time, the suspect stated that the information in the mass media that he was blackmailed by the Russian special services was not true, and he did not cooperate with them.

On October 3, the Security Service of Ukraine announced that it had collected “indisputable evidence” that the suspect in Parubiy’s murder acted on the orders of Russian special services. He was informed of another suspicion: of treason, the SBU said.

According to the Office of the Prosecutor General, the case of the murder was investigated under the articles of illegal handling of weapons and the attack on the life of a people’s deputy of Ukraine, committed in connection with his state or public activities.
