“The Council canceled the confiscation of property from corrupt persons: the government is already working on returning the punishment. When adopting the law on the deprivation of state awards, the Council created a legislative conflict by canceling the rule on the confiscation of property of corrupt persons. “We were definitely talking about two priority laws, which were adopted quickly enough. One after the other, we are working on returning this article. Let’s say it was a technical ricochet, rather than a political element of the exclusion of the article,” said Stefanishyna.
Addition
On October 31, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, signed a law allowing to enter into agreements with the investigation in corruption cases. The document provides for a reduced sentence in exchange for the disclosure of accomplices and compensation for damages.
There was an addition to the law – Article 77 of the Criminal Code, according to which, in the event of an agreement with the investigation (in corruption crimes), a punishment in the form of confiscation of property may be imposed.
In November, the Rada adopted a bill on the deprivation of state awards for propaganda of the aggressor state. In this draft law, article 77 is presented in a new version – without the part about the possibility of confiscation of property of corrupt persons.
