French President Emmanuel Macron called on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to pay attention to UN resolutions, stressing that Israel itself was created thanks to the UN decision.

“Mr. Netanyahu should not forget that his country came into existence as a result of a UN decision,” Macron said, referring to the November 1947 UN General Assembly vote that ended the British Mandate of Palestine and established the division of the territory into Jewish and Arab states.
The tense exchange of words between Macron and Netanyahu in recent days is linked to fears of an escalation of the conflict between Israel and the Hezbollah militant group, which could affect Lebanon and its civilian population.
