Details: On January 5, information about the sudden “kidnapping” of soldiers of the 108th Brigade by the 225th Assault Regiment began to spread in several military chat rooms.
As the UP knows from one of the officers of the 108th brigade, a total of about 40 soldiers were taken out of two battalions of the brigade – the 2nd and 4th. Some were taken directly from the houses in which they lived, and some were taken from the queue.
This “action” caused the biggest problem to the 4th battalion of the 108th brigade, as officers from the battalion’s management were taken from them. Because of this, the battalion’s evening logistics at the position was “covered”.
Inside the 108th brigade, at first no one understood what was happening, and everyone sounded the alarm.
Direct speech of the officer of the 108th brigade: “People were led out of their houses, told to get into cars, when asked where they were going, they answered that they were going to the barracks in the city of N (hidden – UP). Part of them tried to escape to the checkpoint, but they were surrounded and told that they would go to hold the defense line of the 225th. Then the representatives of the 17th corps came and took them (to their 108th brigade – UP). We call it diversion. People were in such a state … they felt lost.”
Details: According to the spokesman, the fighters of the 108th brigade were taken for additional training and coordination of actions between the 225th Special Operations Command and the 108th Kodatsk Territorial Defense Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The confusion arose from a lack of communication between the defenders.
Voloshyn explained in the comments of the UP that 225 OSHP and 108 brigade work together in one lane: the regiment storms, and the TRO fighters enter and secure the captured positions.
He added that these were not the first such reconciliations, because it was generally believed that the fighters of the 108th brigade knew where and for what they were being taken.
At the same time, the spokesman acknowledged the lack of communication between units in this case. According to him, both the 108th brigade and the 225th OSHP have learned their lesson and will now take it into account for the future.
The speaker also reported that currently defenders of the 108th brigade are in the training center. They deepen their knowledge of takmed, work with drones, etc. A psychologist also worked with them.
Their phones were taken away so that the occupiers would not spy on their location, because there have already been cases when the Russians used mobile phones to expose Ukrainian positions and attack them.
At the same time, once a day they are given mobile devices so that they can contact their relatives.
Some of the soldiers were immediately returned to the places of performance of the tasks of the 108th TRO brigade.
Such coordination is carried out so that fighters can protect themselves and learn to interact with 225 OSHP. They do not plan to involve them in assault actions.
Upon completion of the training, they will be returned to the places of performance of the tasks of the 108th brigade.
Voloshyn could not name the exact number of soldiers of the 108th brigade who are currently undergoing additional training. The spokesman also did not say exactly how long the training would last, but assured that it would not be long.
The 225th OSHP refused to comment on the situation.
Reshetylova’s direct speech: “Yesterday there was a meeting (online – ed.) with the command of the TRO forces, with the command of the 17th corps in the area of responsibility of which the 108th brigade is currently operating, with the command of the 108th brigade itself and the 225th regiment.
The servicemen of the 6th company of the 2nd battalion were also present on the video link. We talked about all the questions that the relatives had… We talked about this misunderstanding that happened between the 108th brigade and the 225th regiment, because the 108th brigade thought that they were going to check the personnel, and the 225th regiment was supposed to take them for adjustment and training.”
The ombudsman added that the fighters of the 108th brigade who need treatment and VLK will be sent for treatment, but this is within the competence of the brigade.
According to her, there is nothing wrong with the very idea of joint training of units before performing joint tasks, on the contrary, it contributes to coordination and efficiency: “It is bad that such unpleasant situations arise due to lack of communication and mutual understanding. We need to draw conclusions from this.”
Reshetylova added that the situation is under her control.
Why it matters: The problem in communication between the two units arose primarily due to chaos and double command at different levels.
Presumably, the 225th regiment received the task of coordination with the 108th brigade directly from the commander-in-chief Oleksandr Syrsky, as it is under his direct command. Instead, the 108th brigade is subordinate to the 17th Army Corps, which is responsible for the defense in the direction of Gulyaipol.
