The deputy said that society “divided into two irreconcilable camps”, and the removal of the flag of Ukraine will allow these camps “to become closer to each other.”
The position of Schimis was supported by Khan Shima, which represents the Czech Prime Minister and Petro Fiali ODS, but made a separate proposal to remove the flag.
According to her, the Ukrainian flag “annoys” the community, and there are no flags of other countries where there are conflicts.
The vast majority of city deputies instead spoke for preserving the Ukrainian flag. Some recalled that the Ukrainian city of Uzhgorod is a partner of Jaglav.
After an hourly discussion, the city council rejected both proposals: one – 24 votes and the other with 25 votes. Five deputies voted for the removal of the Ukrainian flag in both cases.
Last year, Jaglav was offered to introduce positions of Ukrainian police assistants who will assist law enforcement officers in crime prevention.
