Candidate for the position of Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth paid 50 thousand dollars to a woman who accused him of sexual harassment. This happened within the framework of a confidentiality agreement with the victim.
This is reported by CNN.
In correspondence with the Senate Armed Services Committee, Hegseth responded to an inquiry by Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Democrat of Massachusetts, about the sexual assault allegations, which he has publicly denied, calling them a “disgusting allegation.”

The new head of the Pentagon, who was never formally charged for the 2017 incident in Monterey (California), explained that he had entered into a settlement agreement. It includes a confidentiality clause to prevent possible attempts to damage his career as a Fox News anchor with allegations he says are false.
Hegset’s attorney, Tim Parlatore, confirmed to CNN in November that the victims were paid years after the incident. However, the exact amount was first made public by the Associated Press, and Hegseth only recently revealed it to the committee.
Charges against Hegseth
Hegsett’s candidacy for the post of defense minister was approved in the Senate after a key vote — 51 votes “against” and 49 “for”. Two Republicans, Senators Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) and Susan Collins (Maine), opposed his appointment, doubting his competence.
During the hearing, Hegseth was questioned about allegations that arose after his nomination. In particular, allegations of sexual assault after a conference organized by a Republican women’s group, his conduct in the workplace and his comments about women in the US military were mentioned.
According to a police report obtained by CNN, the victim said Hegseth blocked her from leaving her hotel room, took her phone and assaulted her, despite her repeated refusals.
Hegset himself insisted that the meeting was consensual, and he repeatedly made sure that the woman “was satisfied with what happened.”
In addition, he was accused of improper use of funds of the non-profit organization he headed, as well as inappropriate treatment of female subordinates and excessive alcohol consumption.
According to The New Yorker, Fox News employees confirmed that Hegseth was drunk “an open secret” in the editorial office.
