The Cabinet of Ministers approved the candidacies of four new members of the supervisory board of NEC “Ukrenergo”. They were Patrick Roland Greichen, Luigi de Francischi, Jeppe Sebastian Kofod and Jan Henrik Montell, the press service of the energy company reported on November 27.

“We welcome the quick completion of the competitive selection of independent members of the supervisory board of NEC “Ukrenergo”. This depends on the level of international support, which is extremely necessary for the energy industry to carry out restoration work, to build protection of substations in conditions of war and the constant threat of shelling,” said the acting chairman of the board of NEC “Ukrenergo” Oleksiy Brecht.

It is indicated that the search for candidates was carried out by the international company Korn Ferry.

The company said that the supervisory board will include, in particular:

Patrick Roland Greichen is a European expert on climate and energy issues. He previously worked as Secretary of State at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection, where he played a key role in shaping national energy strategies.

Luigi de Francischi – was responsible for regulatory affairs at TERNA, the largest Italian electricity transmission system operator in Europe. He also held the position of vice president of the Montenegrin operator of the GTS CGES and was a member of the board of ENTSO-E for more than six years. Luigi already held the position of an independent member of the Supervisory Board of Ukrenergo in the period 2019-2021.

Jeppe Sebastian Kofod is a European politician and expert in the field of energy and security issues. He has extensive public administration experience as Minister of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, as well as experience as a member of the European Parliament and the Danish Parliament.

Jan Henrik Montell – was the financial director of the Finnish electricity transmission system operator Fingrid. Before that, he worked as a partner of the international auditing company KPMG and has experience as a member of the board of Nord Pool, a Scandinavian energy exchange.

On September 2, the majority of members of the supervisory board decided to prematurely terminate the powers of the head of Ukrenergo, Volodymyr Kudrytskyi. He stated that a campaign to discredit Ukrenergo was launched in anonymous telegram channels and some mass media.

After that, the chairman of the supervisory board of Ukrenergo, Daniel Dobbeni, and the member of the supervisory board, Peder Andersen, submitted applications for early termination of powers and stated that “the decision on the early dismissal of the head of Ukrenergo is politically motivated and, according to the results of the presented report, he has no reasonable grounds”.

Earlier, the Ukrainian mass media, citing sources, wrote that the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy at a meeting of the Stavka appealed to the chairman of the board of Ukrenergo with a demand to write a statement of resignation due to the alleged poor protection of Ukrenergo facilities. Kudrytsky wrote on his Facebook that his dismissal was not related to the protection of objects.

On September 12, in an interview with Economic Truth, Kudrytskyi said that he considers the goal of his dismissal to be “to bring under manual control all these future investments in the reconstruction of the energy sector and the development of new generation.” According to Kudrytskyi, “Ukrenergo” has a turnover of 100 billion hryvnias and has attracted more than 1.5 billion euros of Western support.

The reasons for Kudrytsy’s dismissal were not officially announced.
