As The Bell draws attention, the Russian Ministry of Finance in its press release (not open to users in Ukraine) for the first time mentioned military spending for 2025, but without figures (although the amount of funding is indicated for the rest of the articles).
“The draft budget foresees significant funds for strengthening the country’s defense capabilities in order to ensure the tasks of the SVO (“special military operation”, the Russian official name of the war against Ukraine – ed.). Resources will be provided (and have already been provided) for equipping the Armed Forces with the necessary weapons and military equipment, payment of monetary support, support for enterprises of the defense-industrial complex,” the government press release stated.
The Bloomberg agency reported on September 23 that the draft budget of the Russian Federation envisages keeping military spending at a historical maximum in 2025. Compared to 2024, they are going to increase by a quarter – from 10.4 trillion rubles to 13.2 trillion rubles.
Expenditures under the articles “National defense” and “National security and law enforcement activities”, the agency noted, should amount to about 40% of the total volume of budget expenditures. This is more than the combined spending on education, health care, social policy and the national economy combined.
