Details: For the first time in the history of Britain, there are only two servicemen for every thousand people, the publication notes.
In the year to October, 15,119 people left the country’s Armed Forces. At the same time, only 12,000 new workers were recruited, which led to an overall reduction in the size of the army.
The wage increase the government introduced in July – the largest in 22 years – has proved insufficient to overcome the staffing crisis.
Despite this rise, army recruits remain among the lowest paid civil servants in Britain.
According to the data, real pay for army soldiers has increased by just 1.9% since 2011, while it has increased by 13.39% for junior doctors and 10.14% for train drivers.
In recent years, the personnel crisis in the British army, navy and air force has only worsened, while the number of civil servants has increased significantly.
For the first time, the number of civil servants in Britain (543,000 people) is four times greater than the number of military personnel (137,000).
Against a backdrop of growing conflict around the world, this puts Britain’s ability to defend itself at risk.
Veterans Affairs Secretary Al Carnes, a former Marine, previously said that the British army could exhaust its resources in six months in the event of a major war like the one in Ukraine.
