The cost of the package will be about 1.2 billion dollars.
Under the USAI program, military equipment is procured from the defense industry or partners rather than from American stockpiles, meaning it can take months or years to arrive on the battlefield.
According to Reuters, since the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, the United States has allocated $175 billion in aid to Ukraine, including approximately $61.4 billion in security assistance. About half of this security assistance came through the USAI program. The rest was drawn from existing military stockpiles through the president’s drawdown authority.
It said the remainder of the president’s cutback authority is $5.6 billion.
