“Berlin police have no information regarding specific threats or dangers to these or other schools,” police said Monday afternoon.
According to the state security police, this was “targeted disinformation designed to sow uncertainty, fear and panic among the children, youth and parents of Berlin”.
However, widespread false reports have led to an increase in calls from concerned parents to the police. According to the police, the emergency hotline received at least 900 calls. Some parents said they had no intention of sending their children to school.
On Sunday, police announced that officers would be present near schools to be able to respond quickly to any incidents. Specially trained teams of law enforcement officers were present at 34 schools on Monday to provide communication support to school administrators and others.
Law enforcement officers are now investigating who is behind the creation and distribution of fakes. The warning about the attack was spread, in particular, through Telegram in Russian, the police said.
The Office for the Protection of the Constitution (Germany’s domestic intelligence service) is investigating the incident to determine whether it was a targeted operation from Russia.
As reported, in Moldova they report about increase in the number of fake messages about mining.
And in Poland seven people were detained who are believed to be the authors of hundreds of false reports about allegedly planted explosives.
