As noted at the briefing on this matter, the initiative is designed to inform the public as widely and objectively as possible about the events during the period of the event. call presidential election campaign in Belarus and become a platform for constructive dialogue. It should also be a signal to Belarusians that Ukrainians support their struggle for civil rights and national identity.

Yuriy Syrotyuk, director of the National Center of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, senior sergeant of the 5th separate Kyiv Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces, co-head of the Belarusian Information Center, noted that Belarus should not be equated with Lukashenko, who has ruled the country for over thirty years.

“Back in 2020, we said that Russia would use Lukashenko’s upcoming pseudo-elections as an excuse to fully incorporate and take Belarus. And to take Belarus is to open a huge front against Ukraine of more than a thousand kilometers. Even then… Ukraine needed to get involved in this situation – not to interfere in the internal affairs of the neighboring state, and to spread objective information, to help protect the civil and national rights of Belarusians. That is why Belarus was created information center to objectively tell about what is happening in Ukraine,” said Syrotyuk.

“Therefore, we are now resuming the work of the Belarusian Information Center in order to once again draw the attention of Ukrainian society to the situation in this country and to finally change the associative perception of Belarus with the person of the pro-Russian dictator Lukashenka. I hope that the series of discussions that we are initiating will help in drawing up a road map about how to help Belarus become a European country with rights and freedoms,” Sirotyuk stressed.

The Belarusian Information Center was established in Kyiv on July 8, 2020 at the initiative of the public of the two countries. The information and analytical media platform, the purpose of which was to cover the events during the presidential elections in Belarus, was headed by the Ukrainian poet Oleksandr Irvanets. The co-founders of the BIC were Yuriy Syrotyuk, director of the National Center for Strategic Studies of Ukraine, and Vyacheslav Sivchyk, a Belarusian opposition leader and leader of the Razam Solidarity Movement.
