Details: Parliament appeal also contains a request to the European Parliament and the EU Member States Parliaments to pay a moment of silence to the memory of Parubiy and all Ukrainians who died due to Russia’s aggression.
People’s Deputies called on the international partners of Ukraine to strengthen political, economic and sanction pressure on the Russian Federation as a terrorist state that wages an aggressive war and resorts to political murder and destabilization actions.
The Verkhovna Rada also appealed to the international community to provide Ukraine with additional security and defense assistance, in particular to strengthen the ability to counter terrorist and sabotage attacks.
In the appeal, parliamentarians demand that the Ukrainian law enforcement agencies immediately, professionally, transparently and effectively investigate the murder of Parubiy, if necessary – with the involvement of international experts.
Prehistory:
- On August 30, 2025, the current people’s deputy and former Verkhovna Rada chairman were killed in Lviv. According to the Attorney General’s office, an unknown man fired several shots in a politician, which resulted in Parubiy died on the spot. The attacker fled, a special operation “Siren” was introduced in the city.
- Zelensky reported on the night of September 1 about the detention of the suspect in the murder of the former Verkhovna Rada. Interior Minister Igor Klimenko said that the suspect was detained in Khmelnytskyi.
- The National Police showed the first photos of the detained suspect. The head of the National Police Ivan Vygovsky stressed that this crime is not accidental, and that it has a Russian mark.
- At a briefing on September 1, law enforcement officers reported that the investigation did not reject any of the versions in the murder of the People’s Deputy Andriy Parubiy, but they believe – a Russian mark.
- Radio Liberty journalists claim that the suspect in the murder of Parubiy during the first interrogations confessed to the committed and reported his contacts with representatives of Russia.
