Japanese volunteer Fuminori Tsuchiko, who opened a charity coffee shop in Kharkiv, will have his stay in Ukraine extended, Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov said.

“I spoke with the head of the Kharkiv migration service Oleksandr Timonov about this issue. What can I tell you – Fuminori’s residence permit in Ukraine will be extended. As for the type (permit) of residence for him, it will be decided later,” he wrote in a telegram.

Terekhov added that Fuminori, with his help, “has already become a very important figure for the entire city” to the residents of Saltivka.

The other day, Fuminori Tsuchiko said that he had been to the migration service several times to get a temporary residence permit, but, according to the volunteer, he was not accepted there.

“If I do not receive a temporary residence permit by the end of next week, let alone a permanent residence permit, I will stop my activities here and return to Poland,” the volunteer wrote on his Facebook page.

The State Migration Service did not publicly comment on Fuminori Tsuchiko’s residence permit in Ukraine.
