Switzerland to Facilitate Safe Passage for Russian Delegation to Geneva Talks

Switzerland has confirmed it will ensure the safe passage of a Russian delegation traveling to Geneva for trilateral negotiations aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

According to Russian state media outlet TASS, a spokesperson stated, “Switzerland, as the host country, will play a role in ensuring the security of the delegations’ arrival.”

The Russian delegation is reported to consist of at least 15 members, including Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin and the head of the delegation, Vladimir Medinsky, an aide to the Russian president.

Prior to this announcement, the Kremlin had indicated that Medinsky would lead the negotiations. Notably, he was absent from the Russian negotiating team during previous talks held in the United Arab Emirates earlier this year.

The upcoming discussions, scheduled for February 17-18, will also involve representatives from Ukraine and the United States. Rustem Umerov, head of the Ukrainian delegation, confirmed the details of the meeting.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has mentioned that the negotiations will address territorial issues, a significant point of contention in the ongoing conflict.

On February 16, Kirill Budanov, head of the President’s Office, announced that the Ukrainian delegation had departed for Geneva to participate in the talks.

Switzerland will facilitate the safe passage of a Russian delegation to Geneva for trilateral negotiations involving Ukraine and the United States. The talks, set for mid-February, will focus on key territorial issues amid the ongoing conflict.
