Just like then, 48% of Poles support the acceptance of Ukrainian refugees, 46% are against it – in this case, this is an increase of 1 percentage point. The answer “it is difficult to say” was chosen by 6% of the respondents. The authors of the study emphasized that the share of decisive votes against quite clearly outweighs the share of decisive votes for (19% versus 13%).
They added that at the beginning of 2022, the percentage of Poles supporting the acceptance of Ukrainian refugees reached 94% and remained at a high level until mid-2023.
CBOS analysts acknowledged in this context that the current results are “the worst in the history of our measurements, which began shortly after the annexation of Crimea more than ten years ago.”
According to the results of the study, respondents from smaller settlements are more often against accepting refugees from Ukraine (59% in rural areas versus 27% in the largest cities). These are also persons with basic or secondary education (62% among respondents from this group) against 26% among respondents with higher education.
Respondents with a lower per capita income in their households (57% among those with the lowest income versus 18% among those with the highest) and religious practitioners (57% among those who practice several times a week versus 38% among those who do not) are more likely to oppose accepting refugees.
The acceptance of refugees is most often supported by voters of the left-wing parties – “Together” (88%) and “Left” (78%). This is also supported by 70% of the supporters of the “Civil Coalition”. Among the electorate of right-wing parties, the majority are against – 69% among the voters of the “Polish Crown Confederation”, 61% among the voters of “Law and Justice” and 54% in the case of the “Confederation”.
According to the survey, right-leaning people are generally more likely to oppose it (53% of this group versus 31% of the left-leaning group).
As reported, the biggest fear of Polish citizens in 2026 was the situation with the health care system, but almost half of them indicated threats to national security and internal instability.
We will remind you that a survey by IBRiS commissioned by the Defense24 portal and the Stand With Ukraine initiative showed that the share of opponents of Ukraine’s accession to the EU and NATO among Poles is greater than supporters.
