Scientists from Phohan University of Science and Technology (Postech) in South Korea developed a new nickel -containing high -entropy alloy that contains nickel (Hea), named Hyperadaptor.
This supermetal retains mechanical properties in an unprecedented wide temperature range – from -196 ° C to 600 ° C. This range covers both cryogenic conditions characteristic of liquid nitrogen and high temperatures typical of rocket and rocket engines.
Unlike traditional alloys, HEA consists of five or more elements in almost equal proportions, which gives it a high configuration entropy and unique microstructures. These features provide the material with exceptional resistance to deformation in all temperature changes. Researchers say that the reinforcement due to the nanoparticles L1₂ inside the alloy structure prevents deformation and allows to maintain constant behavior regardless of external conditions.

Hyperadaptor opens new horizons for many industries. In the aerospace industry, it can be used in parts prone to extreme temperature fluctuations, such as engine elements or space apparatus. The automotive industry can integrate it into the exhaust gas production systems. The electricity and pipeline sector will increase the reliability and safety of infrastructure.
The head of the research group Professor Hang Hang SOP Kim emphasizes that Hyperadaptor changes the idea of the possibilities of metal materials and marks the step towards creating a new class of alloys resistant to temperature.
