Details: He noted that he raised the issue of Ukraine’s future funding during meetings with some EU ministers on November 13 in Brussels.
“However, the European Commissioner also clearly stated that the EU does not plan to ask Norway to become part of this credit scheme.” – emphasized the Norwegian minister.
According to him, “currently it is difficult to have a clear position regarding the EU credit scheme or system (for financing Ukraine. – “EU”), because the EU decision has not yet been adopted.”
“But the message from the European Commissioner was that the EU does not plan to invite countries that are not members of the European Union to participate in this credit scheme,” Jens Stoltenberg emphasized.
By the end of 2026, the financial support of Ukraine from Norway will total more than 19.4 billion euros (227 billion Norwegian kroner).
What happened before:
- Prior to that, Norwegian Defense Minister Ture O. Sandvik announced a decision to allocate $7 billion in 2026 for Ukraine’s defense needs.
- Norway also announced that it would provide Ukraine with $150 million to support the energy sector.
- In addition, Norway will hand over to Sumy Oblast a bridge that will soon be assembled in the Mykolaiv Territorial Community of Sumy District, as well as medical equipment worth 2 million euros.
