Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk reacted to the New Year’s address of the speaker of the Chamber of Deputies (lower house of the parliament) of the Czech Republic, Tomio Okamura, calling it an instrument of “ignorance, manipulation and cynicism.”

According to him, by once again insulting Ukraine, Okamura actually causes harm and shame primarily to the Czech Republic and to the Czechs who remain on the side of dignity and justice. Stefanchuk noted that Ukraine is grateful to the “Czech people and their worthy representatives for all their help and support in difficult times.”

“Therefore, I do not seek to give any evaluations to the statements of the Czech Speaker, because I know that they are exclusively his personal position, and not the position of the Czech Parliament and, even more so, of the Czech people. I am convinced that the harshest assessment of Okamura’s words will be given by the Czechs themselves. And we will definitely find out whether he was a useful idiot or an FSB agent,” he wrote on Facebook.

The Ukrainian ambassador to the Czech Republic, Vasyl Zvarych, reacted to Okamura’s statement, calling his words “unworthy and absolutely unacceptable.”

“We regard Tomio Okamura’s insulting and hateful statements against Ukraine and Ukrainians, voiced today in his New Year’s speech, as his personal position, formed, obviously, under the influence of Russian propaganda,” he wrote on Facebook.

In his New Year’s speech, the speaker of the Czech parliament once again spoke out against providing weapons to Ukraine “to support an absolutely senseless war.”

“I believe that our republic will jump off the Brussels train, which, despite the warnings of the US government, is headed for World War III,” Okamura said. – Money flows in all directions, and everyone gets something from this business. Western companies and governments, as well as Ukrainian thieves around Zelenskyi’s junta, who are building toilets out of gold.”

“Let them steal, but not from us, and let such a country not be in the European Union,” he added.

Tomio Okamura in November, on the first day after being elected speaker of the parliament, ordered to remove the flag of Ukraine from the chamber building. Instead, the Czech opposition posted three new ones from its parliamentary clubs.

In December, a new cabinet of ministers was sworn in in the Czech Republic, headed by billionaire Andrei Babish. The new Czech cabinet is expected to be less pro-Ukrainian than the previous government of Petr Fiala. Babish’s party advocated a reduction in support for Ukraine and, in particular, a refusal to supply Kyiv with weapons.
