State Emergency Service: the radiation background in Kyiv is normal against the backdrop of deteriorating air quality

The State Service for Emergency Situations reports that the smog in Kyiv is caused by a change in the wind and minor foci of fires in ecosystems, in particular, in peatlands and open areas of Kyiv, Chernihiv and Sumy regions.

“According to the data of the Ukrhydrometeorological center, the accumulation of harmful impurities in the surface layer of the atmosphere is facilitated by a weak north, northeast wind. The radiation background is normal,” the message reads.

The State Emergency Service advises to limit time outside, keep windows closed, drink water and use a mask or respirator, as well as an air purifier.

According to the State Service for Emergency Situations, on the territory of Ukraine, rescuers are eliminating 21 large-scale fires in ecosystems with a total area of ​​about 2,200 hectares.

Earlier today, the Kyiv city state administration warned of worsening air conditions in the capital of Ukraine, linking it to fires in the Kyiv region.
