The US State Department said that there is communication between the administration of Joe Biden and the new team of President-elect Donald Trump on foreign policy issues, including in the context of Russia’s war against Ukraine.
Source: US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller during a speech at the International Press Center in Washington, quoted by “Ukrinform”
Direct speech Miller: “We talked with the new administration about a whole range of foreign policy issues.”
Details: He recalled that President Joe Biden met personally with President-elect Donald Trump at the White House, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken had a conversation with Secretary-designate Marco Rubio. In addition, White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan said he had spoken with his successor several times.
At the same time, in the context of the Ukrainian issue, Miller emphasized that no one can dictate to Ukraine whether to enter the negotiation process and when it should be done.
Direct speech Miller: “Ukraine is a country that is a victim of Russia’s aggression, and they must decide which way to move forward.”
Details: He emphasized that it is Ukraine that bears the burden of Russian aggression, while Ukrainians suffer from war crimes and atrocities.
Direct speech Miller: “They (Ukrainians – ed.) have earned the right to make these decisions. No one else in the world has earned the right to do it for them.”
We will remind: US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen believes that the future administration of Donald Trump will not change the $20 billion loan granted to Ukraine, which will be paid at the expense of frozen Russian assets. According to her, the loan does not involve the use of American taxpayers’ money.
It was also reported that the Biden administration is considering new, tougher sanctions on trade in Russian oil.
