Spain will make efforts to block Rutyte’s plan at the Hague summit next week, if he does not change his position, the representative added.

Recall:

  • Earlier, Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles stated that Spain adheres to her plan for defense expenditures of 2% of GDP. At the same time, she noted that Spain would not veto NATO’s decision to increase the target level of defense costs during a Hague summit.
  • Meanwhile, US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegset is convinced that NATO members will support US President Donald Trump’s demand to increase defense spending to 5% of GDP.
