“A U.S. invasion of this territory would make Vladimir Putin the happiest person in the world. Why? Because it would legitimize his invasion of Ukraine. If the U.S. used force in Greenland, it would be a death blow for NATO. Putin would have a double reason to rejoice,” Sanchez emphasized.
Sanchez also said that Spain has not yet decided whether it will send its troops to Greenland to participate in exercises organized by Denmark.

The Danish Arctic Command has invited the United States to participate in military exercises in Greenland.
Instead, US President Donald Trump threatened increased tariffs to European countries that send their troops to Greenland at Denmark’s invitation. A number of European capitals and the leadership of the EU called such a reaction inappropriate and unacceptable, in milder or stricter terms.
