In his statement, Yoon Seok-yeol also called on the opposition parties to “immediately stop the outrageous actions that are paralyzing the work of the country” – and recalled the differences that arose as November ended. Then the Democratic Labor Party (it has a majority in parliament) rejected the government’s proposal and decided to impeach the state auditor and the chief prosecutor.

The causes of the political crisis in South Korea
According to the BBC, in the parliamentary elections held in South Korea this spring, the Democratic Party won 192 out of 300 seats in the National Assembly.
As a result of the crushing defeat of the President’s People’s Power party in the elections, the leader of this party, Han Dong-hoon, resigned, and the country’s Prime Minister, Han Deok-soo, resigned.
The media reported that the spring election vote could be seen as an interim referendum on the confidence of President Yoon Seok-yeol, who has three more years left in power.
The BBC’s Seoul correspondent Jake Kwon recalls that after his party lost the parliamentary elections, the president was unable to pass the laws he wanted, instead having to desperately veto any legislation the opposition passed.
This week, the Democratic Party cut the budget proposed by the government and the president’s party, but Yoon Seok-yeol cannot veto it.
