President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that he does not believe that Russia wants to end the war, but at the same time there are indeed moments when Moscow would like to suspend hostilities, in particular, due to the exhaustion of the economy, but it is looking for something that could be sold to its people as a victory.

Zelensky’s direct speech: “If you use all the pressure tools, there will be more chances (to end the war – ed.). I don’t think that Russia wants to end the war. There is a lot of evidence otherwise. I just think that sometimes there are moments when they would like to “suspend the war” and are looking for how to “sell” it in their state as a kind of victory. In my opinion, this is exactly the process taking place.”

Details: According to the president, Russians understand that their economy is not at a stalemate yet, but the situation is “extremely negative.”

“They understand that they have a certain reserve, because they have both money and relevant contracts. But the sanctions pressure remains and there are results in this regard, and there will be more,” Zelenskyy said.

As an example, he cited the fact that France and the United States are stopping tankers of the shadow fleet of the Russian Federation. According to Zelenskyi, French President Emmanuel Macron informed him that his country is preparing to work with legislative changes to prevent the release of detained Russian tankers.

“God grant that he succeeds. And this is a question for all states. At least for the northern, maritime states that have an influence on this. That is, the tankers with Russian oil must be stopped, and that you keep it, and not stop it for a while and let it go. That is, there is a movement towards such solutions, and it will definitely become more difficult for the Russians. This is one of the tools,” – believes the president of Ukraine.

He expressed his belief that if all these tools work, the Russians “will want to end the war sooner.”

“I want to end the war. Ukrainians want to end the war. Putin started the war, and he did not achieve the results he set… He does not have this achievement. That is why they are pushing now for us to leave Donbas. Because if you leave Donbas, this will be the only thing he will say: “This was our main goal, this is our Donbas, our victory.” This is a problematic issue, because this is the only thing they cling to in this propaganda “sale” for his audience,” Zelenskyy concluded.
