The chairman of the supervisory board of Ukroboronprom David Lomjariya noted that Smetanin has gained “unique experience and is well known both on the internal processes of enterprises and in the organization of work of the defense of the defense of the defense.”

Smetanin has recently headed the Ministry of Strategic Industry, which was included in the structure of the Ministry of Defense after changes in the government. At the same time, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed the expectation that he would head Ukroboronprom.
For the first time, Smetanine headed Ukroboronprom from June 2023 to September 2024.
