Details: Sikorsky emphasized that Poland supports the territorial integrity of Ukraine, “there is no doubt about that, and I have repeatedly emphasized it.”

“On the other hand, at the conference, a hypothetical discussion took place among experts in the off-the-record mode (without public citation. – Ed.), where we considered how to implement the proposals of President Zelensky himself, about how to return Crimea. He talked about diplomatic actions “, he added.

The head of the Polish Foreign Ministry answered questions about his statements from the Yalta European Strategy conference in Kyiv.

As the Ukrainian mass media reported, Sikorsky proposed to transfer Crimea under the UN mandate with the prospect of holding a referendum on the territory’s status in the distant future.

This provoked a sharp reaction from Ukrainian officials, and in particular from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where, without naming Sikorskyi, they urged not to satisfy the “Kremlin’s appetites at the expense of the interests of Ukraine and international law.”

The international community and Poland, in particular, do not recognize the illegal annexation of Crimea by Russia in 2014. The European Union introduced sectoral sanctions against the Russian economy, which it repeatedly extended.

In June, the European Court of Human Rights announced the decision on the merits of the first interstate case “Ukraine v. Russia (Regarding Crimea)”, finding the aggressor state guilty of systematic violations of human rights on the occupied peninsula.
