Sibiga: The ceasefire will only work with the simultaneous execution of Russia

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriy Sibiga declares that a temporary ceasefire will work only on condition of simultaneous performance by Russia, and the forces of defense of Ukraine continue to carry out combat missions. He wrote about it in Facebook on March 11, following the results of American-Ukrainian talks in Jedda.

“The American side will now talk to the Russians about their readiness or unwillingness to end the war. Why such a temporary ceasefire is important – because this is not about frozen conflict. It is only an attempt to start the way to the end of the war in a fair way, ”the post reads.

It is also a step that demonstrates “who is really interested in peace,” the minister said.

Sibiga added that the negotiation statement directly records the immediate resumption of US exchange and military assistance to Ukraine.

“Particular attention is paid to the release of prisoners, civilians, the return of Ukrainian children. It was our principled position.
It was also important for the Ukrainian side to make a direct mention that European partners should participate in any peace talks. We adhere to the position: no decisions on the long -term security of Europe without Europe, ”Sibiga wrote.

On March 11, Saudi Arabia was held in Saudi and the United States in Saudi Arabia. Presidential head Andriy Yermak, Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga, Defense Minister Rustem Umerov and Deputy Head of OP Pavlo Palis took part on the Ukrainian side. During the negotiations, Ukraine agreed with the proposal of the US side to introduce a ceasefire regime in the war with Russia for 30 days. The delegations also discussed the importance of humanitarian efforts as part of the peace process, in particular during the ceasefire regime, including the exchange of prisoners of war, the dismissal of retained civilians and the return of forced Ukrainian children.

US President Donald Trump said representatives of the United States and Russia would meet the armistice in Ukraine on March 11 or 12.

Commenting on the results of the negotiations, their participant, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio repeated that the Ukrainian-Russian war “has no military solution”. “Before negotiating, you need to stop the shooting. The Ukrainians agreed to it. We hope that the Russians will say “yes” so that we can finish the war in a way that will be acceptable to both parties, “said the head of the US foreign policy department, adding that” no “will mean an obstacle to this effort.”
