Azerbaijan and the Netherlands have announced additional support for the Ukrainian energy industry, Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga announced on the evening of January 2.

According to him, Azerbaijan sent energy equipment – 12 low-voltage panels, 11 generators, 5 transformers and 27 thousand meters of cable – to restore electricity supply in the regions affected by Russian attacks.

Also, as the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported, during her visit to Ukraine, the Minister of Foreign Trade and Development of the Netherlands, Aukje de Vries, announced the allocation of an additional 23 million euros for Ukraine’s energy support. The aid includes the purchase of gas, equipment for emergency repairs of power plants and the supply of energy equipment from Dutch companies, including generators and cables.

Sybiga announced that by the end of January, Ukraine expects the arrival of energy and medical equipment from Slovakia.

“This is the hardest winter in our history, but we must go through it and not let Russian terror break us. Ukrainian diplomats are doing their part to strengthen energy resilience amid Russian shelling. We attract international aid and specific equipment and contributions that go to support our people – I regularly report to the President of Ukraine on new decisions and packages,” he wrote on Facebook.

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion in February 2022, Russia has been striking Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Since the beginning of the fall of 2025, Russian forces have intensified their attacks on the Ukrainian energy sector.

The Security Service of Ukraine qualifies Russia’s strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure as crimes against humanity. The SBU noted that since the beginning of this year’s heating season, it has documented 256 air attacks by the Russian Federation on energy facilities and heat supply systems of Ukraine.

Recently, a particularly difficult situation with energy and heat supply has developed in Kyiv and the suburbs, where emergency shutdowns continue after the Russian strike on January 9. Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko said that this Russian attack was the most painful for the city’s critical infrastructure, and the situation is the most difficult in four years.
