First Deputy Prime Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal predicts that after the night strike of the Russian Federation, it will take a day or two to restore TPP-5 and TPP-6.

“Today there was a ballistic attack by the Russians, there were debris flows from TPP-5 and TPP-6 in Kyiv. This resulted in damage to the gas distribution and gas compressor device at one of the CHP plants, and the circular pumps and water treatment system were broken at the second. As for CHP-5, I hope that everything will be restored within a day, for CHP-6 it may take two days,” Shmyhal said at a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Energy and Housing and Communal Services.

The minister noted that the positive temperature made it possible not to drain the water from the system.

“This will make it possible not to spend two weeks filling the system and eliminating the holes that are connected with it… We will return heat to people as soon as possible,” added the head of the Ministry of Energy.

He also emphasized that due to the lack of heat, the power industry and the government are trying to turn off no more than three or three and a half power lines in Kyiv.

Russian troops fired ballistic missiles at infrastructure facilities in Kyiv at night, Mayor Vitaliy Klychko said. According to the State Emergency Service, the attack damaged residential buildings in Darnytsia and Dnipro districts. There was also a hit in a non-residential building in Holosiivskyi district. Two people were injured.

In Kyiv, due to this attack, another 2,600 houses in the capital were left without heating. According to the mayor, these are high-rise buildings in Desnyansk, Dniprovsk, Pechersk and Solomyansk districts.

Klitschko reminded that more than 1,100 high-rise buildings in the Desnyanskyi and Darnytskyi districts do not have heating after the past shelling, which caused critical damage to the Darnytskyi CHPP.

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion in February 2022, Russia has been striking Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Since the beginning of the fall of 2025, Russian forces have intensified their attacks on the Ukrainian energy industry.

The Security Service of Ukraine qualifies Russia’s strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure as crimes against humanity. The SBU previously noted that since the beginning of this year’s heating season, it has documented at least 256 air attacks by the Russian Federation on energy facilities and heat supply systems of Ukraine.
