Large parts of Berlin were left without water supply on the evening of December 31, a few hours before New Year’s Eve. Residents of the Charlottenburg, Wedding, Kreuzberg and Mitte districts report the lack of water in their apartments.
The reasons for the water supply interruptions are still unknown. Berlin’s water company has not provided an official explanation, and its phone lines are overloaded. The answering machine informs about a high volume of calls and asks to contact you later.
According to an employee of the central building management of the company Axel Springer SE, there is a significant drop in pressure in the water supply system in the city. Normally the water comes in at a pressure of 6 bar, but now this figure has dropped to 1.5-1.8 bar. Because of this, water flows in a weak stream on the lower floors of buildings, and it is completely absent on the upper floors.
The Berlin fire department reported a water leak in the Gesundbrunnen district late in the evening. However, it is not yet known whether this incident is related to a general interruption in water supply.
