The agency claims that at least four of those arrested on December 10-11 were “near a military facility.” Guam has many such facilities, including Andersen Air Force Base, where a missile test was conducted on December 10.

Spying on US military facilities, especially those capable of launching missiles, could provide China with potentially valuable intelligence

Guam authorities said the Chinese nationals all arrived on the same boat from Saipan and an investigation is ongoing.

China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not yet responded to Reuters’ request for comment.

The states plan to create a network of air and missile defenses at 16 sites around Guam to deter any missile attack on the island. The plan is aimed at integrating the most modern American anti-missile defense systems and radars, its implementation may cost up to ten billion dollars.
