Serbian Security Chief Warns of Planned Sabotage on Turkish Stream Pipeline

The head of Serbia’s Military Security Agency (VBA), Djuro Jovanic, has raised alarms about a potential sabotage plot targeting the Turkish Stream gas pipeline. During a press briefing on April 5, he indicated that the agency had been monitoring this threat for some time, linking it to an individual among migrant groups.

Jovanic stated that his agency had informed President Aleksandar Vucic about the possibility of such an incident occurring, but reported facing skepticism and disagreement from officials. He claimed, “We had data that one person from a group of migrants, capable of military service, would attempt to carry out sabotage on the gas infrastructure,” assuring that this individual would be apprehended.

He also addressed misinformation suggesting that Serbian military personnel might be involved in operations to find Ukrainian explosives and falsely attribute sabotage to Ukraine. “This is not true. The origin of the explosives does not imply that they were ordered or executed by that party,” he clarified.

“Today we found explosives that were specially packaged, hermetically sealed, with detonators and appropriate tools prepared for transportation and use in a sabotage operation. I can reveal a detail from the investigation: the markings on the explosives indicate they were made in the USA,” Jovanic explained.

Earlier that day, President Vucic announced the discovery of explosives along the Turkish Stream pipeline, which connects Serbia to Hungary. In response, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban called for an emergency meeting.

Opposition leader Peter Madyar accused Orban and the Serbian government of attempting to stage another false flag operation. He noted that there had been prior warnings about a potential incident occurring around Easter, just a week before Hungary’s elections.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs denied any connection to the explosives found near the pipeline, suggesting it could be a “Russian operation under a false flag” as part of Moscow’s interference in Hungary’s electoral process.

Serbia's Military Security Agency has warned of a planned sabotage on the Turkish Stream pipeline, linking the threat to an individual among migrant groups. The discovery of explosives has raised concerns, with political implications for Hungary's upcoming elections.
