He assured that Berlin will continue to support Ukraine “like no other in Europe” and “keep a cool head” to prevent the conflict from growing.
“Many citizens view Russia’s brutal war of aggression against Ukraine with a growing sense of anxiety. I assure you that we will not leave Ukraine in trouble and will support it like no other in Europe,” said Sholtz.
In his address, he called, among other things, for unity in “difficult times”, recalling the attack on the Magdeburg Christmas market that killed five people and injured more than 200.
“We are not a country where people oppose each other or pass by each other. We are a country of unity. And we can draw strength from this – especially in such difficult times as now. And times are hard now, we all feel it,” he said.
On December 11, the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, said that Germany’s total aid to Ukraine amounted to 37 billion euros. This is the largest among all European countries.
