German Federal President Frank-Valter Steinmeier officially resigned Chancellor Olaf Soltz and 14 ministers of his Cabinet.

Steinmeier thanked the Chancellor of Scholz, first of all, for his response to a full -scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, which, according to him, “a huge feat of power.”

According to Germany’s legislation, the powers of the Federal Chancellor end with the convening of a new Bundestag, which held his constituent meeting March 25.

Scholtz and his ministers are no longer in positions, but coalition negotiations on the new government have not yet been completed. Steinmeier asked Scholz to continue to manage his office official affairs to the appointment of a new federal government.

Such a temporary government still has all the powers, but as a rule, it will no longer make any important decisions and will participate only in those meetings that will consider it absolutely necessary. For example, Scholt will fly to Paris on Thursday to the summit relative to Ukraine.

When a new government is formed, it is still unknown. If the CDU leader Friedrich Merz and his potential office adhere to the previously announced schedule, they can complete coalition negotiations for Easter.

However, the CDU/CSS and SDPN have recently reduced the expectations of a quick deal, citing their desire to find as many joint positions as possible. Among the issues that remain controversial are migration, economic and tax policy.
