The Korneuburg Regional Court in Austria will soon consider the issue of extradition of the former head of the Main Directorate of Internal Security of the SBU, the press service of the State Bureau of Investigation reports.

The SBU does not specify who it is about, however, given the plot of the case, it may be about the former general of the SBU Andriy Naumov.

The bureau reminds that in Ukraine, investigators have completed a pre-trial investigation against him under a number of articles of the criminal code.

According to the SBI, after serving a one-year prison term in Serbia for violating local legislation, the exhibitor, according to Ukrainian law enforcement officers, moved to Austria in October 2025, about which Austrian colleagues were informed.

The documents necessary for extradition were quickly prepared and handed over to the competent authorities of the Republic of Austria, the SBI is waiting for a fair decision of the Austrian court regarding the extradition of the ex-general, the bureau adds.

On October 15, 2024, Andrii Naumov was re-sentenced to one year in prison for money laundering in Serbia. The High Court in Niš also sentenced him to five years of deportation from Serbia, with the condition that the time served will not be counted towards the above measure.

On August 28 last year, at the request of the State Bureau of Investigation, Interpol placed Naumov on international wanted list. The SBI, among other things, suspects the former official of fraudulently taking over UAH 3.2 million during his tenure as the head of a state-owned enterprise in 2019-2021.

Earlier, Andrii Naumov was informed of suspicion of organizing forgery of official documents. According to the investigation, he organized the forgery of official documents in order to avoid criminal liability in the Republic of Serbia.

The ex-general of the SBU was detained on June 7, 2022 while trying to get from Serbia to North Macedonia in a vehicle in which during customs control they found almost 593 thousand euros, more than 120 thousand US dollars and two emeralds that he was hiding.

Naumov’s trial continues from November 7, 2022. In September 2023, a court in Serbia sentenced him to one year in prison on charges of money laundering. But in the winter of 2024, the Court of Appeal overturned the verdict of the first instance and returned the case for a new decision.

In the fall of 2023, Serbia also finally refused to extradite the SBU whistleblower to Ukraine.

Former Brigadier General Andriy Naumov started working in the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in 2019. Decommissioned at the end of July 2021.

The ex-intelligence officer was at the center of journalistic investigations related to corruption, smuggling of money and other valuables abroad. In October 2020, journalists of the Radio Liberty project “Schemy” discovered Naumov’s real estate, which did not correspond to the declared income of the civil servant.

On January 13, 2025, the journalists of “Schem” (Radio Liberty) reported that Naumov purchased three apartments in an elite residential complex in the area of the Turkish city of Alanya on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. The total official value of the purchased property is 17.5 million hryvnias.

Commenting on the announcement of the suspicion, Naumov, declared an international wanted man, said that he was being persecuted on the basis of fabricated facts, “long ago refuted by Western courts and special services.”

Earlier, he already stated that his persecution is political.
