He said that he “fully agrees” with Trump that the planes need to be knocked down “if necessary.”
Secretary -General said that the Alliance has had several decades of response experience to violations by Russia.
“This means that combat pilots and the military are constantly evaluating threats and when it is necessary to accompany these planes from the Alliance. But if necessary, we will also do more and go to the far event to protect our population,” Rutte said.
Earlier, the President of the European Commission Ursula von Der Lyen said that it did not exclude the knocking down of Russian aircraft, which irresponsibly fly into the airspace of NATO countries.
At the same time, not all share this position – in particular French President Emmanuel Macron.
