Literally: “According to preliminary data, during the assault on the positions of the Ukrainian troops in Donetsk region, the occupiers captured six servicemen of the Defense Forces of Ukraine and subsequently shot them.
Shooting prisoners of war is a serious violation of the Geneva Convention on the Treatment of Prisoners of War and is classified as a grave international crime.
Currently, investigative actions aimed at establishing all the circumstances of the crime and the persons involved in its commission are being conducted.”
Details: The law enforcement officers started a pre-trial investigation into the fact of committing a war crime that caused the death of people (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
What preceded:
- The Prosecutor General’s Office states that the number of executions of Ukrainian prisoners of war is increasing every month. In October-November, the prosecutor’s office opened 13 cases related to the executions of 54 Ukrainian prisoners of war, which is a third of all such proceedings in 2024.
- In November 2024, the Russians stripped naked and shot prisoners of the Armed Forces in the Pokrovsky direction.
- Also, the Russian invaders shot five captured soldiers of the Armed Forces near the settlement of Novodarivka, Pologiv District, Zaporizhzhya Region, and a criminal investigation has been initiated.
- On October 23, during the week, the Russian military captured and shot six Ukrainian soldiers.
