Russian State Duma deputy will be judged for calls for occupation and justification of aggression – the ARC Prosecutor’s Office

Ukrainian law enforcement officers transferred to the court an indictment on the deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation – a citizen of Ukraine, who publicly justified the armed aggression of Russia and called for the occupation of Ukrainian territories. He is threatened with up to 10 years in prison, the ARC Prosecutor’s Office reported on May 21.

The investigation states that in October 2022 the person involved in the program on the Russian TV channel “Millet” in the occupied Simferopol, where he publicly called for the occupation of Ukrainian territories and promoted the Kremlin narratives. During the live broadcast, the deputy supported a full -scale invasion of the Russian Federation and called for the “liberation” of Donetsk, Zaporizhzhya and other regions of Ukraine, which, he said, should “join Russia”. In addition, he expressed the ideas of “the only people” and “territorial community”, which are typical elements of Russian propaganda to justify the seizure of Ukrainian lands.

The actions of the accused are qualified as an encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine, as well as justification, recognition of lawful, denial of armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine. For this he faces up to 10 years in prison.

According to the prosecutor of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea Igor Ponochovny, criminal proceedings were opened in Ukraine for more than 3,800 military crimes and crimes against the main national security committed by Russians in Crimea. The Ukrainian courts have already announced about 200 sentences in this category of criminal cases, and in 580 cases hearing is ongoing.
