Russian forces have launched drone attacks on energy production facilities operated by Naftogaz in the Sumy region for the fourth consecutive day, according to a statement from the company.
The attacks have resulted in significant damage and a fire at the site. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries, as the coordinated efforts of Naftogaz staff and emergency services enabled a swift response to extinguish the fire, stated Serhiy Koretsky, the head of Naftogaz.
Earlier reports indicated that a gas extraction facility in Poltava had ceased operations following similar assaults. Russian military actions have increasingly targeted Ukrainian cities and civilian infrastructure using various types of weaponry, including drones, missiles, and multiple launch rocket systems.
Ukrainian authorities, along with international organizations, have classified these strikes as war crimes, emphasizing their deliberate nature. The bombardments of critical infrastructure, including energy systems and healthcare facilities, aim to deprive civilians of essential services such as electricity, heating, water supply, and medical assistance, raising concerns of genocidal intent.
In response, Russian officials deny that their military is intentionally targeting civilian infrastructure, claiming that such allegations are unfounded.
Russian drone strikes have continued to target Naftogaz facilities in Ukraine, causing significant damage but no casualties. Ukrainian authorities and international organizations have condemned these actions as war crimes aimed at disrupting essential services.
