Russian Drone Strikes Target Maternity Hospital and Residential Areas in Ukraine

On March 28, Russian forces launched drone attacks on the Ukrainian cities of Odesa and Kryvyi Rih, resulting in casualties and damage to civilian infrastructure. In Odesa, a maternity hospital was struck, causing one fatality and injuring eleven others. In Kryvyi Rih, two men were killed and two others wounded due to similar drone strikes, which also affected an industrial facility.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine has developed a unique expertise in countering drone threats, particularly against Iranian-made Shahed drones, and is sharing this knowledge with various countries, including those in the Middle East. Zelensky emphasized that the current situation represents a significant challenge for nations that are not prepared for mass drone attacks.

According to Zelensky, Ukraine has established an advanced air defense system that integrates electronic warfare capabilities and small-scale air defense measures. He noted that this systematic approach to countering drone threats is critical for global security, especially as Russia continues to support Iran in its military endeavors.

In a separate statement, U.S. Senator Marco Rubio refuted Zelensky’s claims regarding U.S. security guarantees being contingent upon the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from Donbas. Rubio clarified that security guarantees would only be implemented after the conclusion of the conflict, emphasizing that the U.S. has never suggested territorial concessions as a prerequisite for support.

Additionally, Ukraine, Canada, Sweden, and the United Kingdom have jointly submitted a counter-memorandum against Iran to the International Court of Justice regarding the downing of Ukraine International Airlines Flight PS752, which resulted in the deaths of 176 individuals. This legal action aims to hold Iran accountable for violations of international law related to the incident.

The tragic downing of Flight PS752 occurred shortly after takeoff from Tehran on January 8, 2020, en route to Kyiv, claiming the lives of all passengers and crew on board.

Recent drone strikes by Russian forces in Ukraine have resulted in civilian casualties and damage to infrastructure. President Zelensky highlighted Ukraine's expertise in countering drone threats, while U.S. officials clarified misconceptions regarding security guarantees. Additionally, a joint legal action against Iran was announced concerning the downing of Flight PS752.
