Russian courts received claims in 2025 to recognize missing 26 thousand people

Since the beginning of 2025, more than 26,000 applications have been received by the Russian courts for recognition of people missing or dead. This is more than for the entire 2024, when 22,600 such claims were filed, Media Azone reports.

The applicants’ information is hidden in most applications. Since the beginning of 2024, almost 19 thousand claims with hidden data have been calculated. The October District Court under Rostov was the absolute leader, where 2,700 claims have been received since the beginning of last year, all with closed information.

The court confirmed that the statements were brought by representatives near military units. According to the Mediosones, almost 12 thousand claims are indicated by the commanders of specific parts, in nine thousand – other structures of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. In total, at least 23.5 thousand appeals are directly related to the military, according to the publication.

In general, according to Media Again, as of June 2025, the courts received from 30 to 40 thousand such claims related to the military – dead or missing.
