During the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russia lost about 1,212,520 of its military personnel, including 990 people in the last day, according to the Ukrainian General Staff as of the morning of January 5.

The command of the Armed Forces also reported on the loss of Russian military equipment:

  • tanks – 11,507 (+8 – for the last day)
  • armored fighting vehicles – 23,857 (+2)
  • artillery systems – 35,785 (+29)
  • RSZV – 1,592 (+2)
  • air defense equipment – 1,268
  • planes – 434
  • helicopters – 347
  • UAVs of the operational-tactical level – 100,564 (+704)
  • cruise missiles – 4,137
  • ships / boats – 28
  • submarines – 2
  • automotive equipment and tank trucks – 72,945 (+169)
  • special equipment – 4,036 (+1).

Russia does not officially disclose its losses. Moscow last reported the number of people killed in September 2022, when 5,937 people died.

On December 2, British intelligence analyzed data from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Russian losses in the war. An office at the British Ministry of Defense indicated that Russia is likely to have lost 382,000 soldiers killed and wounded since the beginning of 2025, with total losses during a full-scale invasion reaching 1.168 million.

“Russia’s average daily losses during November 2025 reached 1,033, according to the General Staff of Ukraine – more than 1,008 in October 2024, the third increase in a month in a row,” the summary says.

Kyiv also did not announce the losses for a long time, saying that the data would be disclosed after the war. At the same time, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, in an interview with NBC News at the beginning of 2025, stated that since February 2022, Ukraine has lost more than 46,000 soldiers killed and about 380,000 wounded in the war.
