The British Ministry of Defense announced on January 19 that the year 2024 has brought the biggest losses for Russia since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
According to the department’s estimates, Russia lost 429,000 soldiers killed and wounded last year, compared to 105,960 in 2022 and 252,940 in 2023.
Russia’s total losses in the full-scale war against Ukraine exceed 750,000, the department’s post on the social network Kh.

Russia and Ukraine give almost no information about their losses in the war. Moscow officially last named the number of people killed in September 2022 – then 5,937 people died. Kyiv did not do this for a long time, saying that the data would be disclosed after the war.
On December 8, 2024, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, announced that since the beginning of the full-scale war, Ukraine has lost 43,000 soldiers killed and 370,000 wounded. According to his data, the losses of the Russian Federation exceed 750 thousand – 198 thousand dead and more than 550 thousand wounded.
The head of the Pentagon said on December 7 that Russia lost at least 700,000 soldiers during the large-scale war against Ukraine and spent more than 200 billion dollars on it.
