Russia is forced to transfer units from other directions to the Kursk region – the National Guard

“The Kursk operation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other units is aimed at creating unfavorable conditions for the enemy’s forces, which were deployed in this direction, and at disrupting its logistics””, — write: www.radiosvoboda.org

Russia is forced to transfer its units to the Kursk region “to strengthen the group,” National Guard spokesman Ruslan Muzychuk said on TV.

“What we are seeing now has an effect not only in the north of Kharkiv Oblast, on the activity of the enemy along the border with Sumy Oblast, but also in other directions of the front. Because the enemy is forced to withdraw its units from the southern directions and from other directions in order to strengthen the groups in Kurshchyna,” he said.

According to Muzychuk, “The Kursk operation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other units is aimed at creating unfavorable conditions for the enemy’s forces, which were stationed in this direction, and at disrupting its logistics.”

“Now we see, even in this day and age, that the activity of our Armed Forces is aimed at keeping this area, this initiative. As for the activity of the enemy, in particular now in the north of Kharkiv Oblast, or the activity of its subversive and intelligence groups, in general, this trend has decreased in those areas of the border where our units are performing tasks together with the State Border Service,” the spokesman added.

He noted that “the threat of enemy DRGs has not disappeared, but the Defense Forces are monitoring the situation regarding their activity.” Muzychuk also noted that “the occupiers often resort to information and psychological operations.”

On January 5, Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation of the NSDC, reported that “Russian troops in Kursk were attacked from several directions, which was a surprise for them.”

According to the American Institute for the Study of War, Ukrainian troops resumed offensive operations in at least three directions within the Ukrainian salient in Russia’s Kursk region and achieved a tactical advance on January 5.

The armed forces of Ukraine began an operation in the Kursk region on August 6, occupying more than 1,000 square kilometers. Then the Russian army, with the help of North Korean troops, was able to recapture part of the territory.

In November, the Reuters agency, citing a high-ranking Ukrainian military source who works in the General Staff of Ukraine, reported that due to Russian counterattacks, Ukraine had lost more than 40% of the territory in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation, which it captured during hostilities in August. According to the source, Russia has deployed about 59,000 troops in the Kursk region.
