The government of the Russian Federation has banned the use of IP telephony in the country and making calls through the network to landline and mobile phone numbers. Such a resolution was published on the website of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Russian Federation, writes UNN with reference to “Radio Liberty”.

It is reported that permission for such calls is excluded from the list of licenses for communication services.

The ban is in place to combat online fraud.

“Now this type of telephone fraud will be seriously limited,” the message reads.

At the same time, the ban does not apply to calls from messengers to messengers. However, Roskomnadzor previously announced the possibility of introducing a complete ban on receiving calls from abroad.

The restrictions come amid a sharp increase in the number of attempted arson attacks and destruction of infrastructure by citizens, allegedly at the behest of phone scammers.
