The Russian Foreign Ministry statement states that Moscow sees good prospects for strengthening bilateral ties and will continue to support Afghanistan in the fight against terrorism, drug crime and security. The potential for economic cooperation in energy, transport, agriculture and infrastructure is emphasized.
“We believe that the official recognition of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan will give impetus to the development of productive bilateral cooperation between our countries in various fields,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia said.
“We appreciate this bold step from Russia, and, with God’s will, it will be an example for others,” said the Foreign Minister of Afghanistan Amir Khan Mutaki.
The publication notes that in 2024, Russian ruler Vladimir Putin called Taliban a “ally in the fight against terrorism.”
No other country has yet recognized the Taliban government, which came to power in August 2021 after the chaotic withdrawal of US troops.
At the same time, China, the United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan and Pakistan have already assigned their ambassadors to Kabul, which is regarded as a step in the direction of recognition.
Literally: “This step is likely to be careful about Washington, which has frozen billions of dollars of assets of Afghanistan’s Central Bank and imposed sanctions against some high -ranking Taliban officials, which actually cut off the country’s banking sector from the world financial system.
Details: At the same time, Western diplomats emphasize that the Taliban’s path to broader international recognition will remain closed until the regime changes its policies on women’s rights, including the ban on girls’ education and restrictions on their movement without a man.
Prehistory:

- Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani, accompanied by the head of his administration and the national security advisor left the country and went to Tajikistan. Ghani said he went to prevent bloodshed in Kabul.
