This is already the fifth “Run4Victory” charity run. The previous four took place in Ternopil, Vinnytsia, Cherkasy and Ladyzhyn. The maximum distances in all previous marathons were overcome by the participant of four “Run4Victory” races, the employee of the MHP, Iryna Semko.

“My acquaintance with running began about three years ago. The company held internal sports competitions. Then training did not become a habit. And already in 2023, I took part in several races in Kyiv. I wanted to try my hand. After running 5 kilometers for the first time, I realized that you have to train. So that it brings benefits to the body, not only emotional pleasure. From April, it was training not at a fast pace – twice or three times a week. I was told once: if you can run at the same time talking is your pace,” she said.

Iryna Semko ran 21 km for the first time this year in Ternopil as part of the Run4Victory League.

I wanted to show by my own example that it is not scary. And to prove to myself that this is possible. I set myself the goal of running four distances of 21 kilometers. But in Ladyzhyn, the maximum was 10. That is why the fourth distance of 21 km will be in Kyiv on October 27

For the last year, Iryna has been working out regularly three times a week. On average, he runs 10 km per training session. Before marathons, he tries to reduce or increase mileage in order to prepare the body for loads. During training, he chooses different distances – flat roads, tracks with slides.

“For me, running is an opportunity to be alone with my thoughts, to think about something, to take time for myself. Also, running develops discipline, because in order to train regularly, you need to adjust plans and allocate time to do everything. In addition, I have become more resilient. Thanks to running my body is in good shape. I try to switch to morning runs instead of evening runs. A run helps me start the day faster, and after it I come to work “charged and ready for battle,” the woman shares.

Semko also dispelled a number of myths about running.

Running has a bad effect on the joints and knees

“This can happen if the running technique is incorrect. For example, if you fall on your heel, the load on the joints is greater. When you stand on your full foot, it is less. Before I started running, I read a lot of information about how to do it correctly.” – says Iryna.

While running, you need to inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth

“Actually, it’s all individual. Each person chooses the way that is convenient for him,” the athlete said.

You don’t need to work out in the gym if you run

“Classes in the hall help to prepare muscles for loads and improve running results,” said Iryna Semko.

Long runs are the key to success

“In my opinion, systematicity and running for pleasure is the key to success and the development of running skills. After all, the more love you put into sports, the more enjoyable it is for you,” the athlete concluded.
